Well at long last I'm posting again. Things have been moving on with our build but not as quickly as we originally hoped. I was sick for about 8 weeks over Christmas and into the New Year and DH got busy at work, we were expecting it but not until later in the year.

Anyway with the help of some good friends and neighbours our frame is almost up. We had planned to have it finished over the weekend and inspected by council this weekend unfortunately the rain made that absolutely impossible and now our neighbour with muscles is unavailable until the weekend after next so that means an all up delay of 2 weeks or $640 in rent..yep that's what cheeses me off!!!.

Anyway here are some progress pictures for our project, I know I sound complaining above but really I'm not, I'm a bit worried about running out of money budgeted for rent but I'm really excited about the project and moving in to out tiny house.

oops looks as though I'll have to add the pictures later when I get a chance to ask DH just where he put them

Gosh I'm slow posting pics. They really will be here one day soon.

The frame is now complete and we got signoff from council last Friday. Today the plumber is on site doing all the trenching and rough in and the telephone guy is coming today to to lay his cables.

The electrician will be along on Tuesday to pop his cables in and then the trenches will be backfilled.

It's a long weekend here this week so DH plans to get all the roofing on and I've got to go and pick up the insullation/wrapping for the walls.

The wall cladding is being delivered either today or Tuesday so things are really moving.

I managed to pick up all the appliances I need from an Auction house, they're reconditioned Smeg items with a 1yr warranty. I got a dishwasher, a 900mm gas hob, 900mm electric oven and a 600mm electric oven for $1200...what a bargain and yes I do LOVE to cook :P

Oh I also managed to get a 2nd hand kitchen from ebay for just $1000. The cupboards are all exactly the sizes I need. Although the doors aren't the finish I want and neither is the bench top, they'll do for now and at a later date we'll replace them but as long as the cupboards don't need moving it wont be too big a job.

... the photos I mean.

Great eBay find, by the way! I thought the $4-6k kitchens on tradingpost were awesome but $1000 blows those out of the water! Thanks for the tip :)

Glad I'm not the only one who's had a 'win' on Ebay - a full ensuite for under $100! Don't forget letting your friends/neighbors know what you're doing - I got a complete kitchen from a friend's son for $500 with a gas wall heater thrown in so now all I need is a house to put them in. . . . still trying to decide and getting VERY enthusiastic after reading the progress made by everyone else! Keep us up to date please!

Well at long last I've added photos of our house progress to date to my blog.

Things are going much more slowly than we had hoped. Unfortunately DH is having to do pretty much everything on his own. His helpers are dropping like flies and since we have a 2yo and a 4yo I really can't be on site much. It's simply not safe.

Oh well here's the link to the blog as you can see my wonderful man is doing a tremendous job and once we get to the lining I'll actually be able to pull my weight and do some work when the kids are at playschool.

Hi Toni,
It is funny that when it is time to do the work, suddenly all the people that offered to help are never available... It happens to everyone, unfortunately. Keep up the good work....

BTW, everything always takes twice as long as you originally thought...

Regards, Ari :)

Yes, I guess we should have known things would take longer. Now wishing we had moved into a shed first. If we weren't paying rent the delay wouldn't be a problem but as we are I'm stressing cos we're sooooo over budget on rent you wouldn't believe so I'm having to watch every penny now.

On the upside, I worked with DH onsite this week and got the knack of cladding so fingers crossed we will get it finished this weekend with the extra day and all (I'm using my last labour budget money to pay a baby sitter). That being the case I'll start putting up plasterboard when the kids are at school on Wednesday and Friday next week.

I know exactly what you are going through, Toni. That was why we decided to build our shed, because renting while building was too expensive for us. And the commuting was too hard on the kids as we were forever travelling to our block.

Besides, when I was living on the block, I could help Scott to do stuff around the place. And the kids could stay in the shed watching TV or play with their toys. Is it possible to rent a demountable? Our friends are renting 2 demountable on their blocks while they are building their shed, and they found that the rent on them are cheaper than paying rent on their house. And of course, they can both be on the block and working on it. Just a suggestion...

Regards, Ari :)
