Just a very general question ....

I am just wanting to get a general idea of a comparison btwn the relative cost (assume same average level block and soil type etc) of using pier foundations compared to a slab foundation … are piers significantly cheaper … moderately cheaper or approx. the same price as a slab foundation …

I would have thought getting all those drilling machines in to drill the big holes and then a surveyor or whatever to make sure that the tops of the peirs are all perfectly level would be also just as expensive as doing a slab foundation

Assuming your soil is not too hard, it does not cost that much to get an earthmoving machine to drill some holes 1 - 2 metres deep.

A surveyor is not required to level piers. that is dont by hand in various ways without too much trouble.

Cost of piers is
    - drilling the holes
    - piers
    - cement for the holes and maybe reinforcing
    - a flooring system for your structure

Compare that cumulative cost to that of a slab on Ground, and there is your comparison.

Thank you for your reply ... So it sounds like it is significantly cheaper to use piers for your foundations than it is to use a slab ... Assuming similarly suitable soils etc

Thank you

Not necessarily. Thats where you will need to do your homework, costing the work to implement either system. Good luck.
